More Covid-19 cases reported as three succumb
The country has recorded 138 more Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours taking the country’s total caseload to 98,693.
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced that 4,526 samples had been tested over the period raising the total number of samples tested so far to 1,107,121.
From the cases, 88 are males and 50 females, while the youngest is a one-year-old baby and the oldest is 80.
Of the positive cases 119 are Kenyans while 19 are foreigners.
Kagwe noted that 266 patients have recovered from the disease with 251 being from the home-based care programme, and 15 from hospitals around the country, bringing the total number of recoveries to 81,933.
He confirmed that three more patients had succumbed to the disease bringing the total number of deaths to 1,723.
Home-based isolation
Currently, there are 680 patients admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 1,730 are on home-based isolation and care.
Twenty-six patients are in the intensive care unit (ICU), 17 of whom are on ventilatory support, and eight on supplementary oxygen 13 out of whom are in general wards.
In the distribution by counties, Nairobi leads with 65, Kericho 23, Mombasa 10, Makueni and Uasin Gishu six, Nyamira Kisumu four, Kiambu three, Busia, Nakuru and Kajiado two each.
Kenya expects to receive 24 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine in February, as announced by Kagwe on January 7.
However, there is a possibility that vaccines other than AstraZeneca could arrive in the country before the end of this month.
“We are engaging institutions like GAVI, who gave us the date of February. But it is quite possible that with the private sector, we can get the vaccines earlier than the date GAVI has given us,” Kagwe said.
