Most NMS functions have already been ceded, says Sakaja
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja yesterday revealed that the Nairobi Metropolitan Service had concluded the transfer of functions to the county.
Sakaja stated that plans were on course to have another deed of re-transfer of functions.
The governor, who spoke after attending a church service in Pipeline, Nairobi, noted that most of the technical work had been completed and both teams were now planning for an official date for the function.
Sign new deed
“Last week, we had a lengthy engagement with General Mohammed Badi where he was able to hand over almost all the functions back to the county government. We are remaining with very little work to do and, within a week or two, I will sign another deed of re-transfer that will see all the functions under me,” he said.
Sakaja revealed that technical teams had managed to audit all NMS assets and pending bills.
He added that the findings of the audit will be shared with the public when he signs the new deed.

“We must acknowledge that NMS has done some good work. Although there are hitches here and there, NMS came at a time when the county was suffering from serious wounds. It was able to save the county from further bleeding,” he said.
The county boss said that skills and knowledge acquired by the seconded staff under NMS would be used to enhance City Hall’s capacity.
“NMS has had exemplary service delivery and great impact on all residents of Nairobi. During the transition, we shall work as a team — upholding the principle of public office for continued and efficient service to the people,” he stated.
