MP Cate Waruguru: Uhuru-Ruto will reunite soon, watch out for casualties
There are ongoing talks behind the cameras to reunite President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto, says Laikipia Woman Representative Cate Waruguru.
Waruguru says the two leaders will soon bury the hatchet in a move that will unite the nation adding that the ongoing cold wars in the Jubilee government will not last long.
The MP says President Uhuru’s leadership stand will not allow him to vacate office leaving the country sharply divided as it is.
“I don't think there is this problem that exists between President Uhuru and his deputy that they cannot take a cup of tea and discuss it and iron it out,” she said in an interview with Tuko.
“Some works are going on behind cameras. People should wait for more surprises. There is a truce that is likely to happen between President Uhuru and his Deputy Ruto,” she added.
Waruguru, however, warns that the political truce between the two leaders will come with a sacrifice in which a section of politicians will be part of adding that others will be used as collaterals.
“Once that happens, there are politicians who will be casualties and others will be used as collateral damage of that truce,” she said.
Her comments come at a time when the President and his deputy appear to be not in good working terms.
The two leaders, who jointly worked and launched development projects together in the build-up to the 2017 polls, have taken different paths ahead of 2022.
As President Uhuru is focused on his legacy projects, the DP appears to be laying the ground for his 2022 presidential ambitions.
This happens amidst claims that President Uhuru has ignored him when assigning duties to his cabinet leaving the DP with no task.
According to the Kenyan Constitution, the DP is the principal assistant of the President. He, therefore, takes orders from him and he may fit in some of his duties in his absence or once directed by the President.
Of late, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has bypassed the DP in taking crucial roles that observers say should have been undertaken by him.
But as things appear rocky for the DP, opposition leader Raila Odinga, on the other hand, is having the best moments of his political career in many years, thanks to his 2018 handshake with the incumbent president.
Raila enjoys the trappings of power; occasionally flies in military choppers, accorded state security and recognized in key events as results of his good relationship with the president.
He is also sometimes seen with President Uhuru launching and initiating development projects in the country.
It is his close ties with the president that political pundits argue that the Handshake deal between the two leaders is part of an elaborate plan to dislodge the DP in the 2022 race.
Waruguru, however, believes that in the wake of these pushes and pulls in the Jubilee government, what ails the country narrows down to the ODM party.
She says the ODM party, where the DP left before striking an alliance with Uhuru, has pending issues that must be addressed for the country to move forward.
“The problem ailing this country is deeply inherited from ODM, the origin of William Ruto and his political father Baba. If those issues are sorted, there three major forces: Uhuru, Ruto and Raila Odinga,” she said.
