MP ordered to deposit Sh1m bond

Nakuru West MP Samuel Arama is on the spot for failing to deposit a Sh1 million bond in court as surety in his Sh60 million land case.
Arama (pictured) has been a “free” man after the High Court ordered his retrial in May this year. On Monday, the trial court discovered that the MP has never deposited surety bond terms in court.
Consequently, Milimani Anti-Corruption Court Senior Principal Magistrate Victor Wakumile ordered the lawmaker to deposit the bond terms in two weeks failure to which he will be detained until his corruption case is heard and determined.
While making the directive, the magistrate wondered why the MP had not deposited the bond terms as did his co-accused including former Nakuru Land Registrar Charles Birundu and lawyer Kennedy Onkoba.
The High Court in May placed the accused persons on their defence after overturning an earlier decision by the trial court that had acquitted them for lack of evidence.
Arama is charged with several counts of abuse of office, fraudulent acquisition of land in Nakuru and conspiracy to defraud a businessman.
He is said to have conspired with four others to defraud Ahmed Muhammad Nisar by means of dispossessing him a plot of land between August 3, 2015 and August 11, 2015.
