Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi will remain in custody for two more days pending a ruling on an application by the State seeking to hold him for a further 14-days.

Nakuru Chief Magistrate Josephat Kalo deferred the application to tomorrow, after both the prosecution and defense presented their submissions over the matter following Sudi’s arraignment.

The magistrate further directed the legislator to be remanded at the Nakuru Central Police Station and to be taken to the Nakuru Level Five Hospital after his lawyers claimed he was unwell.

Moral support

Yesterday, the National Cohesion and Integration Commission and the police, through an affidavit sworn by Inspector of Police James Akello, demanded to have Sudi detained for 14 days to allow them conclude investigations.

They claimed they are investigating Sudi on the five offences which include hate speech, assault of a police officer, offensive conduct, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, and resisting arrest.

The prosecution informed the court that several witnesses are yet to be traced.

However, Sudi through his battery of lawyers opposed the application for detention.

Sudi is accused of making offensive comments about President Uhuru Kenyatta and his family, notably Mama Ngina.

More than 20 MPs allied to Deputy President William Ruto converged in Nakuru to give Sudi moral support.
