MP Wahome sues Matiang’i for withdrawing her guards
Kandara MP Alice Wahome has sued Interior CS Fred Matiang’i and Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai for withdrawing her security detail.
Wahome claims the IG withdrew her security following a statement on January 20 through Director of Corporate Communications that National Police Service (NPS) shall not provide security to Vips who are involved or suspected to be involved in crime until they are cleared by the courts.
“Subsequently in accordance to the said statement my security was withdrawn as police bodyguards attached to me were all recalled. I have never been informed of any reasons that led to the said action to date,” she said in court documents.

“In arriving at the said decision, IG totally disregarded all the constitution and the laws of Kenya regarding protection and security of members of parliament,” she argues in court documents.
The MP argues that the decision was made without any force of the law, was unreasonable, whimsical and ought to be quashed.
“The decision is discriminatory in nature as all other Members of Parliament continue to enjoy security provided by the National Police Service,” she says through her lawyer Stephen Gitonga.
The MP says the effect of the said decision now threatens to exposes her to security risks as she has enjoyed security ever since being elected as a Member of Parliament in 2013.
She says she is apprehensive that she might be attacked and harmed based on the nature of her duties as the Member of Parliament for Kandara constituency
The MP argues that she is now unable to discharge her functions effectively to members of her constituency and the whole country at large as a result of her security being withdrawn.
“The petitioner believes that this arbitrary action and its timing when she has recently made remarks directed at the government in respect of impunity and bad governance is meant to harass and intimidate her from the political stand and position she has taken,” stated the lawyer in court documents.
She says she has neither been charged nor been informed of any investigations being conducted upon her on suspicions of having committed any crimes.
“The right to fair administrative actions cannot be suspended at the whims of any state organ .. it is for the aforementioned reasons that this Honourable court is entreated to intervene over the breach of the petitioners rights and the law,” she argues in court documents.
