Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua has accused Ministry of Interior Permanent Secretary Karanja Kibicho of misusing his office to influence the outcome of the 2022 polls.

Speaking in Mau Narok on Thursday, November 25 during a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) rally, Rigathi said Kibicho was using chiefs and police officers to force locals to vote in Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga come 2022 general elections.

“It is very wrong for Kibicho to sponsor incitement in this area by using government funds,” Rigathi said adding that the Interior PS channeled government funds through former Molo MP Njenga Mungai to sway Mau Narok voters into voting for Raila.

Rigathi’s claims came after Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi asked politicians to stop interfering with the work of chiefs.

He said there were numerous attempts by politicians and their associates to instigate the transfer or sacking of government officials on flimsy grounds.

“We are aware of many demands and threats by politicians for the sacking and transfer of government officers. The day we allow politicians to manage our personnel, we will have lost our focus. We will protect you for as long as your only crime is prosecuting the government agenda,” he said.

Matiang’i further cautioned chiefs and other administrative officers against engaging in partisan politics saying they were duty-bound to support the government of the day by popularising its policies.

The CS, who was addressing deputy county commissioners, assistant county commissioners, chiefs and assistants chiefs from Makueni County, also said the government will promote officers across the ranks of the National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) structure on merit.
