Western Kenya leaders drawn from five counties have affirmed their agenda to drive economic recovery in the region through engagement with the national government.

The team led by Devolution Cabinet secretary Eugene Wamalwa and Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya vowed to keep on with their drive despite attacks by ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang'ula.

The leaders said they are not interested in petty politics saying  their goal is to revive their region's economy and not 2022 politics.

"We are working on revamping  this region's economy and not political sideshows," said Mr. Wamalwa.

Governor Oparanya said the initiative has already borne fruits with several projects being on the pipeline.

"Our recent meetings with President Uhuru Kenyatta have been very fruitful. This is what we need and not politics of rhetoric," he said.

Bungoma governor Wycliffe Wangamati said the region will no longer hinge its politics on kingpins since it has never borne fruits.
