Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya has faced the wrath of the elders for opposing National Assembly Justin Muturi's coronation as the Mt.Kenya spokesperson on Saturday.

Led by Njuri Ncheke Secretary General Jospaht Murangiri, the elders have accused Munya of being selfish and against the unity of the region ahead of the next general elections.

"We are telling Munya to stop fighting Muturi because we are the ones who have decided to settle on him (Muturi). This is what we have been looking for so Munya cannot dictate to us on what to do," Murangiri said.

The elders claimed that they settled on Muturi as the spokesman owing to his humility and integrity.

" We wanted a neutral leader someone who can cool the temperatures. This thing is deep, so Munya is making noise for nothing because we know where we are going since this journey started at Sagana and the president knows about it. Elders cannot be wrong," the official added.

These remarks were made after Munya trashed the coronation that happened at Mukuruwe wa Nyagathanga in Murang'a county accusing the speaker of trying to advance his own political interests.

Speaking in Isiolo, Munya dismissed the slot claiming there was no seat of a spokesperson in the constitution.

" I have never heard of a seat called spoke person, neither have I ever seen its office so whatever went on at Muranga is pure comedy because who said a region should have one spoke person does this mean when Muturi is speaking all of us both men and women will remain silent?" Munya asked.

Addressing locals at Rangeland Hotel during a peace meeting, he further warned Muturi not to mandate himself to speak on behalf of the region claiming the mountain has many credible leaders who can express their issues without being held by hands.

"Who said we are not allowed to speak for ourselves if Muturi want the seat as the region elders spoke person, then he is free to speak on their behalf but not us so if that the direction he wants let him retire and join the elders," Munya added.

The CS also dismissed claims that he was not interested in the kingpin position.

"I don't understand what is a kingpin because I don't know its work and who gives the seat so I am not at all interested in the post but those going around looking for it are just political brokers," he added.

However the new revelation could be a state of a battle lost by the vocal CS who during Muturi's Installation at Njuri Ncheke shrines in Meru three months ago accused the National speaker of intruding the region and performing an illegal political ceremony .

The new role of Muturi who hails from Mbeere in Embu county, could open yet another door for a political war between Munya and Governor Kiraitu Murungi who has come out to prefer the speaker instead of Munya.

Kiraitu has so far come out to support Muturi as the region spoke person lauding him of being the most recommendable leader to take the mantle after president Uhuru Kenyatta retires.

" Mt.Kenya need to speak in one voice and have a powerful house with a strong bargaining power and what we need is a steady person who can unite the region and Muturi is a respectable gentleman with a close working relationship with the president and I have no doubt that he is the right person," Kiraitu said.

" If the elders have decided who are we to object ," he added.
