Munya rules out working with Deputy President

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya has said he would not accept an offer to be Deputy President William Ruto’s running-mate in next year’s election.
Instead, Munya said, he can only play second fiddle to ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Speaking a few days after a section of Meru leaders met President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House, Nairobi where they endorsed Raila, Munya described the ODM leader as a visionary leader.
Munya said Ruto was unfit to occupy State House.
“How can I work with someone who once accused me of planning to kill him? That can never happen.
If I’m offered the position of Raila’s running mate, I’m OK with it,” he said at a Meru hotel.
Governor seat
Munya said last Saturday’s State House meeting focused on unity of the Mt Kenya region ahead of next year’s election.
Led by Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi and his Tharaka Nithi counterpart Muthomi Njuki, the leaders pledged to throw their weight behind Raila.
Munya, however, maintained that his major focus was to reclaim the Meru governor seat which he lost in the 2017 election.
“For now I am eyeing the governor’s seat. But if national duty calls, I will not hesitate to go for it, “ he said.
Others who attended the meeting were Meru Senator Mithika Linturi, Kenya Revenue Authority chairman Francis Muthaura, Igembe North MP Maoka Maore and officials of the Njuri Ncheke Council of Elders.
