With about 12 months to the next General Elections, Murang’a Gubernatorial race has hit the ground running with the County Woman Rep Sabina Chege being the latest leader to declare her bid for the seat.

Speaking in Murang’a, the Woman Rep asked area residents to support her bid saying she is ready to deliver on her mandate as the county chief if elected.

“I will be vying for the Governorship of Murang’a and I pray that the people of Murang’a will support me. It is not because I am the best but it is through God’s grace that I believe I will be able to transform Murang’a,” she said.

Chege defended her ability to steer the county towards development saying her current post has prepared her for the task.

She said the inclusion of all stakeholders in the transformation agenda of the county will be key in her development plan.

“I have been the County Woman Rep for two terms now. I understand my people, I understand where things are going wrong and I understand where I am going to improve,” she said.

“Above all, I am a mother. I will be able to bring everybody together; our education professionals, our young people, our elder people so that we bring back Murang’a’s glory,” Chege added.

More than eight aspirants have shown interest in the Murang’a seat that has been occupied by Governor Mwangi wa Iria since the inception of devolution.

Chege is set to face stiff competition from Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata, Water PS Joseph Wairagu, long-serving civil servant engineer Henry Gaate, ex-Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau and former Planning Principal Secretary Irungu Nyakera.
