Health workers in Murang’a county have threatened to down tools to protest delays in salary payment.

They claim the county government has not paid them for the past two months and has given it five days to do so.

Addressing the press in Murang’a, the medics, led by spokesman Lucy Muthoni, said they are struggling to cater for basic needs. “We have given the county until Monday to pay our dues, failure to which we shall down our tools. We cannot continue working without pay,” she said.

“We feel disregarded because no one has addressed these issues despite our numerous efforts to reach out to county officials”, she noted, adding: “We’re not able to service our loans and our lenders are on our necks. We risk losing our property through auction”.

Wangari Kihando, another official, said the medics will camp at the county headquarters from morning to evening until they are paid their salaries.
