The ruling by the Supreme Court judges to nulify the Building Bridges Innitiave (BBI) Bill has attracted mixed reactions from Murang'a residents with a section supporting the ruling and others not happy about it.

Peter Maingi, one of the residents, faluted the judges saying they should have let the agenda be subjected to a referendum for the public to decide whether they want it or not.

He said the decision should not have been made by few people whereas this was a "national agenda".

According to Maingi, BBI would have brought more benefits to the people singling out increased revenue allocation to the counties.

"We have lost a good agenda for the country and I wish there is a way this debate can be revived again," he said.

Another resident, Michael Kimani, said BBI was a good agenda but the politicians who were spearheading it did it the wrong way.

"The pro-BBI leaders were chest thumping that it must sail through and this made the people fell like it was a bad thing being imposed on them," Kimani said.

On the other hand, however, David Mwangi said this is victory for Kenyans as the agenda was only meant to benefit few political bigwigs and not the interests of the people.

He said creation of extra constituecies and prime minister post would have been an extra burden for Kenyans and it would make their lives more difficult.

"We would have been forced to dig deeper in our pockets to fund the bloated legislature and executive if this document was adopted," he said.

Michael Irungu on his part said this is a reflection of what will happen in the August poll, saying Deputy President William Ruto was right all along about it.

"Ruto said BBI will flop and some leaders rubbished him off but his words have come to be," he said.
