Members of the Muslim community in Kiambu have expressed concern over alleged discrimination by the government during the issuance of identification cards.

They decried that Immigration officers subject them to discriminating and unfair vetting processes to ascertain their nationality before they are issued with the crucial cards.

As a result of not having the requisite identification documentation, the Muslims, led by Juma Hemedi, chairperson in charge of Muslim community in Kiambu, regretted that their youths have remained jobless over the years. While some of them are also said to have failed to register for marriages, others have failed to access key Ggovernment services and treatment at some hospitals because of lack of ID. Speaking during Iftar Dinner in Thika Town which was also attended by EALA MP Maina Karobia, Hemedi, while pleading with the government to make it easier for them to obtain ID cards, further lamented low appointment of Muslim community members to government positions.

Echoing his sentiments, Hassan Olenado, the Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims chairman called on the government to establish clear policies governing the issuance of the crucial documents to avert push and pull during the identification processes.
