The deejay who was a fortnight ago shot by Embakasi MP Paul Ongili (alias Babu Owino) at a Nairobi club may not undergo a scheduled surgery for lack of funds.

Felix Orinda alias ‘DJ Evolve’ is still in critical condition and has a long road to recovery, his father John Orinda said yesterday.

Orinda, 60, said his son’s condition has been deteriorating and he is currently on life support.

Though he put on a brave face, Orinda could not hide his emotions when he told a painful tale of how his son, who he described as a jovial man, has been unable to walk after he developed complications on his spinal cord.

“I can’t believe that my son is the way he is today. Looking at him have a lot of questions.

He was once a jovial man but today ‘DJ Evolve’ has lost that good face, he is unconscious and I am even worried that he might not even be able to walk well again,” said Orinda.

The family says the shooting victim is set to undergo an operation next Tuesday, which they expressed fears that it could not happen because of the financial constraints they are facing as a family.

The senior Orinda said the controversial legislator has only managed to pay Sh800,000 and the family has been left to look for the rest amount.

He said by  Wednesday this week, the hospital bill stood at Sh2.5 million, which he said, would get higher as his son was not in a stable condition.

“It’s our wish to see him walk again, but we are worried that this could not happen if he will not be operated on as we were advised by doctors,” he added.

Owino was on Tuesday released from the Industrial Area Remand Prison after depositing Sh2.5 million, the first installment of his Sh10 million bail.

A Milimani Court had ordered Babu to deposit Sh10 million bail to secure his freedom, part of which will go towards paying bills for ‘DJ Evolve’. He was also ordered to keep off alcohol and drugs in public.

There have been new developments into the shooting incident that happened in B Club that saw Embakasi East Member of Parliament shoot a resident DJ on Friday morning.

No reasons were confirmed as to why Owino reportedly shot DJ Evolve, who is now recovering at Nairobi Hospital.

The MP has since said some aggressive men had tried to attack him leading to a shoot-out.
