Members of the Nairobi County Assembly are expected to convene a special sitting any time after next week when the Select Committee on Finance, Budget, and Appropriation return with a report from their retreat in Mombasa.

The House, which adjourned yesterday, June 9, 2022, is expected to convene a special sitting to consider County budget estimates for the financial year 2022/23 which was tabled on May 31.

“The Select Committee on Finance, Budget, and Appropriation together with the executive have retreated to finalize the report of the FY2022/23 budget, and once they return we shall invoke the provisions of standing order 30 and convene a special sitting to consider the estimates,” Speaker Benson Mutura stated.

National Assembly sittings suspended

The same approach is expected to be taken by the National Assembly which also adjourned on Thursday.

In his speech yesterday, Mutura thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga for believing in him to serve as the third speaker of the Nairobi County Assembly.

“I take this opportunity to thank H.E Uhuru Kenyatta and the Rt. Raila Odinga for believing in me and identifying me to serve as the speaker during this critical time. I shall forever be indebted to the two leaders,” Mutura added.

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi suspended sittings indefinitely (sine die) on Thursday ahead of the August 9 General Election.

The adjournment will allow lawmakers to start their re-election campaigns ahead of the August polls.
