This year's Payer Breakfast comes at a time when Kenya has encountered challenges especially with the floods raving the country.

The National Prayer Breakfast holds a special place in Kenya's calendar. Last year's event, held on June 7, 2023, was graced by President William Ruto and drew over 3,000 attendees, with the theme centred around 'Reconciliation'.

The roots of the National Prayer Breakfast trace back to the tumultuous times of World War II in the United States, where a small group of lawmakers sought divine guidance amidst global chaos.

This tradition of seeking spiritual solace eventually led to the inaugural National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C. in 1953.

In Kenya, the journey of the National Prayer Breakfast began in 1986, when a handful of individuals convened for prayer and fellowship under the leadership of former Cabinet Member Isaac Omollo Okero. Over the years, this humble gathering blossomed into a nationwide movement, attracting prominent figures like Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, Raila Odinga, and Moses Keino.

In 2002, following the election of a new President and Parliament, various prayer breakfast groups united to organize Kenya's inaugural National Prayer Breakfast.

Prayer Breakfast targets

Spearheaded by former Vice-President Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, the event aimed to promote unity and reconciliation among leaders from diverse political and religious backgrounds.

Since its inception, the Kenya National Prayer Breakfast has evolved into a symbol of hope and solidarity, transcending partisan divides and fostering a spirit of harmony among the nation's leaders.
