Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati has arrived at Mang'u High School where vote count for Juja by-election was stopped on Tuesday night.

The electoral agency suspended votes tallying after chaos erupted.

In a statement, Chebukati blamed Kiambu Governor James Nyoro for disrupting the process.

"At around 10:20pm tonight there was disruption of the tallying process at Mang’u HighSchool Tallying center in Juja Constituency by a group of individuals led by the KiambuCounty Governor Mr. James Nyoro," he said.

He added: "These acts of hooliganism made it impossible for the tallying process to proceed."

Chebukati, however, said the voting materials were safe and in custody of the IEBC officials.

"The Commission regrets the developments as maintenance of law and order during elections is not its mandate," he said.

Earlier, three men stormed the tallying center at Mang'u High school and caused a commotion raising concerns from parties involved.

Police intervened and whisked the three away.
