Court: You can break assembly doors
A court has allowed for the forceful breaking of doors at the Nyandarua county assembly to make it accessible and operational.
Nakuru judge, Henry Chemitei directed the Inspector General of Police (IG) or his nominee to supervise the exercise.
The assembly has remained paralysed for close to one year since the row between two groups of MCAs – one allied to Governor Francis Kimemia who supported impeachment of the Speaker and another allied to the latter.
“An order is hereby issued to the County Assembly of Nyandarua to use all the necessary force to break into and or remove and change locks to the doors of the County assembly and its precincts or any other part so as to ensure that the assembly and its precincts are fully opened and operational pending determination of the petition herein,” Chemitei said on Tuesday.
It is the second time the assembly doors will be opened forcefully. The first time was when a group opposed to Speaker Ndegwa Wahome broke down doors looking for the official Mace in order to be able to transact the official business of the assembly after “impeaching” him.
Judge Chemitei also ordered the cost of the door breaking exercise will be met by the assembly deputy Speaker, Zachary Njeru, Leader of Majority Ednald Wambugu King’ori and Elizabeth Wanjiku Muthui who was picked to be assembly clerk by proponents of the impeachment.
