Courts bars traders from disposing off cars
The High Court has barred three businessmen from transferring or selling five motor vehicles suspected to be proceeds of crime.
Justice Esther Maina at the same time ordered Sheke Jara Sheke, Aje Gale Joke and Hassan Abdikari Juma to surrender original logbooks of the cars to Assets Recovery Agency (ARA) within seven days.
“The motor vehicles be and hereby surrendered to be in the custody of ARA and assembled at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations with immediate effect,” Maina ruled.
Vehicles are Mitsubishi Canter, Range Rover, Toyota Probox and two other Toyotas. ARA says it seeks to preserve the cars, which are all owned by the trio. According to Sautet Jeremiah, an officer attached to ARA, they received information into suspected trafficking of narcotic drugs and money laundering involving the three from DCI.
They were arrested on the September 19, 2020 at Makutano-Mwea Junction along Nanyuki-Nairobi Road and found in the possession of 58 packages of dry greenish plant material. Justice Maina directed the orders to remain in force for 90 days and the matter be mentioned on March 10.
