The East African Legislative Assembly (Eala) will seek funds from donors to support border counties which are at high risk of experiencing coronavirus outbreak, Eala member Dr Oburu Oginga has said.

Oburu said he will reach out to the National government and donor community for injection of more funds to border counties that are at high risk.

He said he was dispatched to Western region border counties to assess Covid-19 preparedness and  challenges, adding that he will compile a report to be tabled in the regional Assembly.

Oburu spoke after meeting Busia Deputy Governor Moses Mulomi, who is  also the acting Health Executive, in his office to monitor the coronavirus situation in the county.

He said he was happy with mitigation measures Busia was undertaking to keep the contagious pandemic at bay.

The Eala MP said historically,  the region used to have diseases such as small pox but the community learnt how to control it.

Mulomi said among the most urgent things the county requires is an ambulance for ferrying Covid-19 suspects.

He said although the county has not recorded any case of  Covid-19,  they have trained county, sub-county, ward and village administrators, among others, on the pandemic.
