Former Central Imenti Member of Parliament Gideon Mwiti is dead.  The former legislator who lost in the 2017 General Election died on Sunday morning after a short illness.

Tigania West MP John Mutunga condoled with the family as he led other legislators in mourning the controversial politician.

“Mwiti was a dedicated leader who served his people well,” he said. A source said Sunday that Mwiti was of good health on Saturday but he fell sick at midnight and he had to be rushed to the hospital. He had been battling diabetes.

Mwiti won the Imenti Central Parliamentary seat during the 2013 General-Election through the Alliance Party of Kenya but lost to current MP Moses Kirima who vied on a Jubilee Party ticket in 2017.

In 2017, Mwiti announced he was retiring from active politics to venture into the corporate world.

He clarified that he would still interact with residents and people across Kenya and the whole world through corporate ventures.

“Raila should not be underrated because if Uhuru has 10 supporters, Raila’s are nine.

Let their dialogue, not for nusu mkate, but so Raila can get a State job,” he added.

Financial woes hit the ex-MP as he was set to lose his multi-million estate after the High Court ruled it be placed under receivership after the legislator accrued a Sh6.1 million debt.
