Extension of Haji team’s term ploy to create premier post, claims Wahome

Kandara MP Alice Wahome has sensationally claimed that the extension of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) taskforce timeline is a plot to create a powerful Prime Minister position for President Uhuru Kenyatta.
She claimed there is plan to make President Uhuru the Prime Minister and Opposition leader Raila Odinga the President through the BBI in the 2022 General Election.
Wahome claims the President and former PM want to use the Handshake and BBI to bring changes that would allow him to contest for the Premier position as the other one goes for the president.
She said recent sentiments by former Jubilee vice-chairman David Murathe, Nominated Senator Beth Mugo and Central Organisation of Trade Unions (Cotu) secretary general Francis Atwoli are indicators of the plot.
Addressing the press in Malindi yesterday, she wondered why the President has not responded to the statements by Murathe.
Political mercenary
“Raila Odinga is his new political mercenary for hire and the BBI itself is the special purpose vehicle (SPV) heading to the route that has been suggested by Murathe, Atwoli and Mugo,’’ she said.
Murathe claimed President Uhuru is not ready to retire because of his age but Wahome termed the statement as an abuse and insult to the intelligence of Kenyans.
Wahome said the issues were raised by persons who are closely associated with the Head of State and it raised more questions.
Elsewhere, New Democratic Party (NDP) has urged Kenyans to reject the BBI report saying that it is only anchored on forming political alliances instead of uniting Kenyans.
In a statement to newsrooms yesterday, party leader David Sudi said Kenyans should reject the report launched at the Bomas of Kenya recently as it is tailored only to benefit a few individuals at the expense of millions of Kenyans.
“We totally oppose the BBI report since it will take us to nowhere. We still have problems, which we had back before independence. They should first address poverty, ignorance and disease before spending tax -payers’ money for an initiative that will only benefit a few Kenyans,” said Sudi.
The former Marakwet West legislator said the President, who swore to protect the constitution, should lead by example and first implement the current one before bombarding Kenyans with other recommendations of the BBI.
