Government warns goons over disco matanga ban

Sunday, December 29th, 2019 07:56 | By

Homa Bay Deputy County Commissioner Joseph Ngeny has said they will not allow goons to threaten the lives of local administrators under the pretext that one of them had stopped disco matanga in the area.

“One of my chiefs is under death threat because he stopped disco matanga in his area of jurisdiction. You hear youth going round saying we will kill, we will kill. Let those people who want to kill the administrator come to the police station if at all they really mean what they say,” Ngeny said during  Jamhuri Day celebrations at Olodo Primary School, Kanyabala, in Homa Bay Sub County.

The administrator revealed that they are going to have a consultative meeting with the county government officials and bar owners on how to handle the forthcoming Christmas holidays to address the issues of night discos.

Others who graced the occasion included Homa Bay Sub County police Commander Sammy Koskei, Homa Bay sub-county Ward Administrator Benard Opande and Homa Bay West Ward MCA Joash Achieng.

At the same time, Ngeny asked parents not to abdicate their  responsibilities of taking care of their teenage girls, more so during this long holiday so they do not become victims of early pregnancies.

He challenged the boda boda riders to avoid using drugs and instead concentrate on what could improve their living standards.

Opande, the Homa Bay Sub-county Ward Administrator, urged the community to come out strongly and monitor every project being sponsored by the county government in the region to ensure  contractors do not do shoddy work.

He said it was the responsibility of the community to put the contractor on checks and balances since they were the people on the ground.

Area MCA Achieng supported the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) saying the document supports devolving of more funds to the grassroots and also champions the welfare of women, youth and the vulnerable.

He asked the residents to wait for the document and ensure they read it and get acquainted with its content before making any decision.
