Governor Joho hires 95 trainee nurses to help fight Corona

Following rising cases of coronavirus in the country, Mombasa county government has kicked off recruitment of 95 trainee nurses, through a public service internship programme, to boost the capacity of health centre in the area.
Through an advertisement published in local dailies, the county public service board and the Health ministry want qualified applicants to fill the vacant positions.
“The public service internship programme is a government initiative designed to offer the opportunity for college graduates to acquire and develop valuable technical and professional skills while gaining work experience and certify the requirement for registration by various professional bodies,” read the notice.
The plan comes as cases of Covid-19 continue to surge in the country with Mombasa registering 7 out of the 110 cases countrywide.

Some of the county health facilities that have isolation centres are Tudor and Mvita hospitals.
The county also has a 19-bed capacity private isolation wing at the Coast Provincial General Hospital.
Governor Hassan Joho (pictured) says so far the county has also trained 24 health personnel to handle any case of Covid-19 in Mombasa.
Last week, in a bid to calm residents who expressed fears of food and water scarcity, Joho unveiled a relief package to cushion the most vulnerable in the county against hunger.
The Governor issued a stern warning to food wholesalers, who may see the crisis as a business opportunity and hike commodity prices. He said all stakeholders should rally together to defeat the pandemic.
