Governor’s numerous names, aliases confuse court

The Anti-Corruption Court in Nairobi was yesterday thrown into confusion over the many names and aliases used by the Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.

Though officially known as Mike Mbuvi Sonko, the charge sheet showed he had more than four names.

In one instance, he is Kioko Mike Sonko Mbuvi Gidion while in another, he is recorded as Mbuvi Gidion Kioko Mike Sonko and yet in anther document he is known as Mbuvi Gidion Kioko.

Still, in another document the governor identifies himself as Mike Sonko Mbuvi Gideon Kioko alias Mbuvi Gideon Kioko Sonko.

In February 2012, Sonko, then Makadara MP formally acquired Mike Sonko as part of his official name. He acquired the name “Sonko”, which is sheng for a wealthy man because of his penchant for handouts to the youth, who form a legion of his loyal supporters.

Yesterday the usually exuberant governor appeared subdued, listening pensively to the magistrate, who ordered that he be held  at the Industrial Area Remand Prison for another two days.
