Boy drowns in Majengo estate Narok town.

Sorrow has engulfed Majengo Estate in Narok town after a 13-year-old boy drowned while swimming in a seasonal river on Wednesday.

The boy’s parents said their son failed to return home, sparking anxiety in the family which forced them to go searching for him among his peers in vain.

According to a close family friend, David Omondi, other villagers joined in the search for the boy yesterday, only to discover his lifeless body floating in a deep valley.

“Luckily, I am a professional diver. When I was told about the incident, I led a group of other swimmers to the river where we discovered the body floating in the seasonal river,” said Omondi, adding that the boy’s parents had just enrolled him at Engaroni Secondary School and had high hopes that he would one day pursue a degree in engineering as that was his childhood dream.

Following the incident, Pastor George Lemain, of  the Light Christian Fellowship Church, asked parents to monitor their children’s whereabouts, especially during this period when all learning institutions are closed to avert the spread of Coronavirus.

“Every parent should be watchful of their children during this time they are at home when the heavy rains are being experienced.

The parents should take advantage of the time to discover their children’s talents and bond with them,” said Lemain. -KNA
