Trans Nzoia County Jubilee Party chairman Richard Chesebe

Jubilee Party top official in Trans Nzoia county has thanked the National Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) Secretariat for postponing signature collection exercise that was to kick off today and called for consensus to allow Kenyans have a non-contested referendum.

Chairman Engineer Richard Chesebe said the proclamation postponing the signature collection was a step in the right direction and called on President Uhuru Kenyatta to now use the opportunity to assist Kenyans affected by coronavirus.

Speaking to the People Daily during an interview in Kitale, Chesebe said there was an urgent need for a formula on gender balance to be addressed among other pertinent issues facing the people of Kenya.

"Gender balance doesn’t necessarily refer to women and now when we say we reserve 47 positions for them in the Senate without addressing other grey areas that may lead to a more complicated constitutional crisis. We are clearly courting trouble," he said.

He said it was wrong for a section of the political class to champion for a divisive document which will negatively impact the lives of the people of Kenya by leaving them more divided after the referendum.
