Mombasa court on Friday granted Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa Sh3 million bond or an alternative cash bail of Sh4 million after pleading not guilty to murder charges.

Justice Njoki Mwangi also freed her bodyguard Geoffery Otieno on Sh1 million bond or an alternative cash bail of Sh1.5 million.

This comes after Mwangi said the prosecution had not given compelling reasons as to why the two should be denied bond.

"The reason given that the first accused did not have a permanent abode can not be used as a reason to deny him bail as the 2nd accused has in her replying affidavit confirmed that he is a close aid to her and has been living with him for over six years," said Njoki.

In addition, the court said it was already one year since the incident occurred and the accused person had not interfered with any witnesses and that she has been carrying out her work in the same area.

Njoki further ordered that the two deposit their Kenyan or any other passports with the court and can only take them back when they want to leave the country and with special permission from the court.

The two were charged before Justice Njoki for killing Ngumbao Njila during Ganda Ward by elections in Malindi last year.

The legislator has spent four nights at Port Police Station where they will be held until they can post bail.

The duo will appear for pre-trial on November 3.
