Armed robbers attacked and robbed Wiper Party leader and former Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka’s bodyguard of his firearm and other valuables in Karen on Monday night.

Sergeant Joel Kieti Kilonzo reported that he had just dropped the Wiper leader at his residence and proceeded to Karen Country Club where he stayed for about 30 minutes before the attack.

The Nairobi Region police commander Philip Ndolo, however, said investigations had been launched into the reported attack.

“He escorted the VIP back to his residence at Karen and he was dropped by the driver at the Karen Country Club. Investigations are on.

We will decide on the right action to take once the DCI concludes the probe,” he said.

The police boss added that subsequent action, whether the officer should be dealt with departmentally or charged in court, will depend on the findings and recommendations of the probe.

Sources said the officer, like most of his colleagues, had no official vehicles to drop them home after work.

According to the officer, after leaving the club, he proceeded to the stage to board a matatu to town, but was attacked by a four-man gang wielding an AK-47 rifle.

Forceful abduction

He attempted to withdraw his firearm, but was hit on the head and subdued.

The gang then tied his hands from behind before forcing him into a Toyota Prado where they robbed him of his official Ceska pistol.

They then drove away with him along Lang’ata Road and later joined Mombasa Road.

On reaching the Shell petrol station near Hilton Gardens Hotel, they dumped him and drove away towards Syokimau.

The officer reported the matter at Embakasi Police Station and was later referred to Karen Police Station where investigations have been launched.

The officer reported that he was also robbed of his mobile phone and Sh4,000 in cash.
