Kang’ata speaks as EACC, DCI go after him

Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata has maintained that the Ethics and AntiCorruption Commission (EACC) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) was being used to fight him, a claim supported by nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura.
Kang’ata, who doubles as the Senate Majority Whip, claimed he is being targeted over the letter he wrote to the President saying the Building Bridges Initiative was unpopular in Mt Kenya region.
Speaking in Kandara Murang’a yesterday, the senator said he will not bow to any intimidation.
“I don’t understand why crime management institutions are being used to fight me, yet I have not committed any offense or abused anybody,” he said.
The senator’s remarks comes after a report emerged that his law firm is among the 25 being probed by the EACC following their claims of over Sh400 million in legal fees.
“EACC and DCI should not be used to manage politics in this country because there is no fairness and objectivity in what they are directed to do,” he said.
But the commission has denied claims that it was targeting any individual.
“We are not targeting anyone in the probe. We have asked for the documentation to ascertain the authenticity of the pending bills before they are cleared,’ said EACC boss Twalib Mbarak.
