NCIC summons Malala after threatening to block Atwoli’s Luhya Unity meeting
Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has on Monday, December 27 been summoned by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) over his recent inflammatory remarks.
Malala stated over the weekend that he will block Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) boss Francis Atwoli and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) boss, Raila Odinga, from holding a rally at Bukhungu Stadium, Kakamega county.
The lawmaker made the remarks during the Vihiga Cultural Festival which was also graced by OKA principals Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula.
Odinga and Atwoli’s rally is scheduled for December 31, 2021, where the trade unionist is expected to rally Luhya leaders behind the former premier's presidential bid.
NCIC stated that Malala was out of order by declaring that Odinga should not step in Kakamega.
“Kenya has no bedrooms and living rooms for any politician and there is no space for locking out other politicians from any political side from any part of the country,” the NCIC Boss Samuel Kobia said in a statement.
NCIC added that Malala was a “Prime candidate for inclusion in the wall of shame; as well as facing the full force of the law.”
Kobia equally took the platform to warn politicians that NCIC is keenly monitoring their political statements.
He said that they will ensure that politicians do not make reckless remarks ahead of the 2022 polls and that hatemongers are not cleared to run for office.
