Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has been voted the best legislator for his prudent use of the National Government - Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) kitty.

Uriri MP Mark Nyamita and his Mvita MP counterpart Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir came in second and third, respectively, in a study conducted by Mizani Africa, a research and consulting firm on proper utilisation of NG-CDF kitty for the fiscal year 2017/2018.

Speaking when he unveiled findings of the survey, which was conducted in 29 constituencies yesterday, CEO Mizani Africa Harun Kiratha said the study mainly focused on education, security, environment and sports.

Nyoro attributed his score to hard work and commitment dismissing those who accuse him of engaging in politics at the expense of development.

“I spend most of my time in Kiharu where I supervise every activity taking place. I also go to barazas where I get views from my constituents on how we can improve our constituency,” an elated Nyoro said.

It comes even after the study revealed that most Kenyans have a big challenge in differentiating what the NG-CDF can do for them and the kitty from the national government.

According to the study, about 68 per cent of Kenyans don’t know the exact functions the government should handle and what should be left for the National Government.

And it is through this that the study showed of most current legislators likely to go home in the next elections due to wrong expectations from Kenyans.

“Summarily lack of knowledge about NG-CDF by virtually all the constituents clocks at 68.12 per cent with those acquainted with high knowledge registering a dismal 17.31 per cent,” said Kiratha.
