Fourteen orphans and vulnerable students from Rangwe Constituency, Homa Bay County who performed exemplarily well in 2019 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination have landed sponsorships for secondary school education.

The learners who undertook their studies at Kego Orphanage Primary School shone after getting between 312 and 405 marks.

They got the scholarship courtesy of a family organisation based in the United States of America (USA) named Johns’ & Suzy.

The beneficiaries included eight boys and six girls.

Speaking during distribution of cheques worth Sh245,000 on Wednesday, the school director Philemon Onditi said the initial allocation would cater for the students’ Form One first term fees.

Onditi said the  organisation has fully sponsored the students and will pay their fees until the completion of their secondary school learning.

“The organisation realised the students are bight but lack funds to pursue their education. We hope they would continue working hard and make a difference in the society,” Onditi said.

The school head teacher Timon Akello urged the learners to work hard in order to realise their dreams in life.

Akello attributed the students’ good performance to collaboration among teachers, students’ guardians and the school community.

The school produced one of the top best students in entire Rangwe Constituency.

“You will continue excelling in academics when you work hard and maintain high discipline in various schools you get admitted,” Akello said.

Job Otieno and Ida Flovia who scored 371 and 326 marks respectively lauded the organisation for the sponsorship.

“I knew my dream of joining Homa Bay High school was shuttered due to fee problems but now am encouraged with the scholarship,” Otieno said.
