Panic as KPA employee succumbs to Covid-19, 56 isolation centres open

Panic gripped Kenya Ports Authority KPA) after it emerged that an employee of the institution was among two patients who succumbed to the Covid-19.
Ursula Buluma, 58, died on Wednesday night at a private hospital in Mombasa and was buried at the Mbaraki Cemetery in line with Muslim traditions in a highly protected ceremony conducted by health officials while members of the family watched from far.
The second patient was Major (Rtd) Daudi Kibati a former Kenya Air Force pilot. He had piloted the last Kenya Airways Dreamliner a week ago before he tested positive of Covid-19. He died on Tuesday at the Nairobi Hospital.
Last week KPA manager of operations, Captain William Ruto confirmed that the deceased had been admitted at the Mombasa hospital after testing positive for Covid-19 while others have been quarantined for interacting with the patient.
According to Ruto, Buluma left the office on March 20, for her normal medication but upon arrival at the hospital she tested positive for the virus. An official from KPA told People Daily that the deceased worked in the sporting department.
“Its so unfortunate that we have lost her, she was one of us in the administration, since then a lot of people who interacted with her have been put on quarantine,”said an official who is not authorised to speak to the media.
Yesterday, while addressing a media briefing Mombasa governor Hassan Joho said the hospital which was treating the patient needed to be investigated to establish whether the right procedures were followed.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Health has set up 56 isolation centres in different parts of Nairobi County as quarantine facilities.
The centres are staggered in at least all the constituencies and medical doctors, who are the team leaders will man each centre.
Others deployed to the centres are public health officers, clinical officers, nurses and psychologists.
Yesterday, all the team leaders refused give any information concerning the matter saying their have been given strict instructions that all information must come for the Health CS.
“Please understand, we have been told not to talk to the media. All the information on coronavirus management should come for the CS, please bear with me,” said Dr Nelly Pato who is in charge of four centres.
The centres include Mbagathi Hospital KNH, in Kibra, Moi Girls Nairobi (Kibra), Cooperative University (Langata), Corat Africa, Karen and KCB Leadership Centre (Langata).
Others are Long Suites Karen (Langata), KMTC (Langata), The Stand Leisure Hotel Nairobi (West), (Langata), Kenya Water Institute, South C’ (Langata), Boma Hotel (Langata) and West Wood Hotel Upper Hill also in Langata.
The ministry has also set up centres at Waridi Paradise, Hurlingham (Dagoretti North), St Georges Girls, (Dagoretti North. Others are Lenana School, PC Kinyanjui Techincal, Mash Park Hotel, and Jamhuri, Kenya High School, University of Nairobi (Soweto, Block A-D, Stella Awinja, and Box all in Dagoretti South
In Dagoretti North there are more centres at Olive Gardens Hotel, Batianpeak Serviced Apartments, Four Points by Sheraton, Monarch Hotel, Hill Park Hotel, Eastlands Upperhill Hotel, Eastlands Hotel, Swiss Lenana Hotel, Hadassah Hotel, Comfort Hotel and Ufungamano House.
