Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho has directed police to thoroughly investigate and prosecute people behind the distribution of toxic foodstuff in Gikambura, Kikuyu constituency in Kiambu county.

He said the government would not allow a few individuals to play with people’s lives.

At least 20 people were treated at various health centres and hospitals after consuming toxic food donated by unknown individuals on Sunday.

The food aid was packaged in red bags braded with the names of Deputy President William Ruto and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa.

Speaking in Mwea constituency Kirinyaga county, yesterday, the PS said the government had given guidelines on how food donations should be distributed.

“ We have a good way of distributing the food through our administrators, we should stop politicising food donations,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kiambu County Commissioner Wilson Wanyanga urged Kenyans not to use social media to spread rumours on the the poisoned food.

Speaking in Kiambu yesterday, he said social media was being used negatively and called for calm as investigations continued.
