Police in Ruiru have launched investigations to establish circumstances under which a police constable attached to Ruiru police station in Kiambu county committed suicide.

The officer’s body was found on Saturday morning hanging inside his house within the sub county police line.

The officer who hanged himself using a rope has left his colleagues shocked as they described him as a ‘calm man’.

He is said to have gone for paramilitary training with the current Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti and was serving  as a patrol vehicle driver.

Calm man

Ruiru Sub County police commander Phineas Lingera said they are yet to establish the cause of the suicide as the officer did not seem troubled.

The officer who assumed his duties at the station last year was supposed to be on duty on Saturday morning. After he was called to report to work severally, his senior is reported to have gone to his house to check on him and found him hanging.

According to his colleagues who sought anonymity, the officer has been under serious pressure over the past few weeks and looked depressed by job pressure and family.

His body was taken to Kenyatta University Funeral Home awaiting a postmortem exercise.

This is the second suicide case at Ruiru police station as last month, another officer took his life after his seniors allegedly recalled him from leave denying him permission to take his child to school.
