Raila has no power to issue orders, Ruto allies tell civil servants
Jubilee MPs allied to Deputy President William Ruto yesterday sustained their attacks on ODM leader Raila Odinga, advising civil servants to ignore his directives on various issues.
The MPs said Raila had no powers to issue any orders, adding that such directives can only come from government officials.
The remarks come a day after the Opposition leader on Saturday ordered an immediate stop to dredging works at the Likoni Channel to allow divers to locate and retrieve bodies of a woman and her daughter from the Indian Ocean.
Speaking during a prayer service at Kithirune Methodist Church in Central Imenti, Meru county yesterday, the MPs accompanying Ruto claimed Raila was taking advantage of his truce with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The MPs are Raheem Dawood (North Imenti), Moses Kirimi (Central Imenti), Mugambi Rindikiri (Buuri), Rigathi Gachagua (Mathira), Silvanus Osoro (South Mugirango) and Halima Mucheke (Nominated).
“Those orders (on dredging) are a joke. We urge all civil servants to ignore Mr Odinga’s directive; he has no authority to issue such,” said Gachagua.
Osoro asked Raila was overstretching his mandate. “Those in the Opposition should do their duty of putting the government in check,” he said.
And in a thinly-veiled attack on Raila, Ruto asked leaders not to be intoxicated with power and titles.
“That is why they are attempting to sneak in some laws to curb Church donations. We will not shy away from standing with the Church,” he said.
He called for increased collaboration between the government, cooperatives and leaders to ensure the said funds meet their target.
