Relations between Kenya and UK hailed

British High Commissioner to Kenya, Jane Marriott, has hailed the long-time ties between Kenya and her Country.
Marriott said the cordial link has been able to accord the two counties, fantastic opportunities in various areas of development and security.
She was speaking, Thursday, when she witnessed the joint training of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and British Training Unit in Kenya (BATUK) soldiers, at one of the ranches in Laikipia County.
The High Commissioner was accompanied by Laikipia Governor, Ndiritu Muriithi, Laikipia County Security team led by the County Commissioner, Daniel Nyameti, General Officer Commanding West Com, Major-General Joseph Kivunzi, senior military officers from KDF and BATUK and officials from the British High Commission and Kenya’s Foreign Affairs office.
Marriot commended KDF for the work it is doing in Somalia and other parts of the world and the solder’s discipline is rated highly globally.
“The two armies are learning from each other on best tactics when dealing with an enemy and most of the KDF soldiers engaged in the training have served in Somalia and those from BATUK have served in Afghanistan,” Marriot added.
She noted that the Kenyan terrain is very good for armed forces training and thanked the Government of Kenya for giving the United Kingdom an opportunity to train in the country.
Marriott said the British government has taken it into consideration on how it can participate in helping Kenya to deal with issues pertaining to climate change.
Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi said that the presence of BATUK in Laikipia is of great significance in the economy of the County.
He added that BATUK and Laikipia community have been getting on very well with each other, since the time the army stepped into the Country many years ago.
County Commissioner, Daniel Nyameti, said the economy and development of any country depends on the status of its security.
He pointed out that the joint training is of paramount importance, adding that the two armies will gain from each other due to the changing technology in warfare equipment and new tactics in dealing with the enemy.
