Residents benefit from Sh20m NHIF plan
National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) has enrolled 3,000 household in Siaya on the scheme to boost access to universal health care.
The Sh20 million one year initiative targets people living with disability and the aged in the 30 wards.
Speaking during distribution of the NHIF cards at Awelo Primary school on Friday, Governor Cornel Rasanga said the programme was in line with the government’s Universal Health Coverage that would see all are enrolled by the year 2022.
Deserving groups
“We saw the suffering of our people who had difficulties in paying for health services and we shared the idea with the Assembly and put aside some money to roll out the plan, and we started with defined and deserving groups that were identified and enlisted,” he said.
“My government is working to see to it that hospitals get NHIF accreditation,” said Rasanga adding that he was happy to hear that those providing primary health care were enrolled and accessing quality healthcare at zero cost.
NHIF will work with community health workers in the county to increase enrolment with the teams floating innovative proposals including pegging NHIF membership to essential county services.
