Several residents of Riomoga village, Kenyenya sub county in Kisii county have protested over rampant cattle theft along Kisii- Transmara border, saying it is threatening peaceful co-existence.

Consequently, the villagers have appealed to chiefs along the border, security officers and the Interior Cabinet Secretary, Dr Fred Matiang’i to intervene so that they can recover the animals to foster peace and unity.

Led by Ayubu Manyange, the villagers who demonstrated at Mariba shopping centre said for the last one month they have lost seven cows and it has impoverished them.

Manyange, 61,  who is living with disability said thieves stole his two cows on February 25 and have not been recovered.

He said he reported the matter at Magenche police station, Kiango General Service ( GSU) camp and at the Assistant County Commissioner’s office and is yet to be assisted.

“We traced the foot prints of the cow to Riorwongo dam and when we crossed the common border, our neighbors were unwilling to help us,” Manyange said.

He said that in 2014, the two communities signed a peace accord and several investors invested in sugarcane and tea farming in Transmara which enhanced development in the community and reduced cases of cattle theft.
