Deputy President William Ruto has endorsed the Building Bridges Initiative referendum Bill saying it captures the needs of the 'hustler nation'.

In a tweet on Friday, DP Ruto cited new Article 10 (a) in the Bill which he said it was introduced after the launch of the BBI report at Bomas of Kenya.

"New article 11A in the BBI Constitution Bill introduced after Bomas will anchor the ordinary people's hustler economics of wheelbarrow, boda×2, mamamboga, pastoralists/butchers & guarantee maximum return on coffee, tea, korosho, sukari, maize. Bottom up not trickle down economics," he wrote on Twitter.

The Article states: "(1) This Constitution recognises the need for an economic system that provides equitable opportunities for all the people of Kenya to benefit from economic growth in a comprehensive, fair and sustainable manner.

"(2) The State shall promote— (a) productivity through protection of intellectual property rights; (b) investment, enterprise and industrialisation for sustainable economic development; (c) sustainable sources of livelihood
including agriculture, pastoralism and the blue economy; (d) an economic system that supports small and micro enterprises; (e) an infrastructure that supports the digital economy; and (f) application of science and technology in the production system.

"(3) Parliament shall enact legislation to give full effect to this Article."
