Ruto urges leaders to focus on development
Deputy president William Ruto urged leaders to focus on serving the people instead of engaging in meaningless political debates.
Ruto said it would be very unfair for the leaders to always politick while people are waiting for service delivery.
Speaking in Kandara Murang'a when he attended the burial of Gibson Kinyanjui, the brother to Kandara Mp Alice Wahome, the deputy president said what is important for now is to ensure people get what they deserve.
"We need to show commitment and have focus to fulfill the promises we gave to the people while campaigning," he said.
"Those who campaigned and got their seats should work for their electorate and those who failed should wait for the next elections," added Ruto.
The DP said there are power brokers who want to set false political agenda for the country to suit their own interests.
"We don't want anybody who will bring us politics of division on tribal and ethnic basis, there is no time for playing dirty games" he said.
Ruto, however, gave a wide berth to the BBI debate terming it as an irrelevant and meaningless agenda.
He said what is important for now is to drive the key four agendas that the Jubilee government has adding that they are all geared towards improving the livelihood of the people.
However, despite President Uhuru Kenyatta's call to the leaders to first read and analyse the BBI report before rejecting or supporting it, those who had accompanied the Dp have stood their ground that they shall oppose it.
The leaders among them senate majority leader Kipchumba Murkomen, Naivasha Mp Jane Kihara, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, Mathira Mp Rigathi Gachagua and Didmas Barasa for Kimilili said if the report does not address the issues affecting the common people they shall not support it.
Murkomen said the BBI team went round the country taking views from the members of the public and thus the issues they raised should be given priority in the report.
"We shall only support this report if it shall be addressing issues ailing our country but if there is a hidden political motive in it we will oppose it," he said.
