The government has intensified security in and out of Nyayo Stadium ahead of the 56th Jamhuri day celebrations, Nairobi Regional Commissioner (RC) Wilson Njega has said.

Briefing the media on Wednesday, Njega said that the government has employed the Comprehensive threat and risk assessment technique where all those attending the celebration will be searched and frisked by security officers when the gates open for the public from 5:00 am.

“Intelligence units will offer tactical support throughout the function and we urge members of the public to cooperate and make work easy for everyone,” said the RC.

Njega at the same time called on motorists and vendors who will be operating outside the stadium to follow any instructions given by the law enforcement officers to ensure smooth flow of both people and vehicles.

Meanwhile, Njega said that the government is investigating the collapse of  Tasia building  which occurred last Friday and led to the loss of lives and property.

“We are looking for the owner and contractor of that particular building who are still at large. I want to assure them that they cannot escape from the long hand of the law and we will soon catch up with them,” said Njega.

He explained that they are investigating the probable cause of the collapse and anyone found culpable will face the law.

“I want to commend the multiagency teams from government agencies and private players who helped save over 36 lives. I would like to also call on all those living in condemned houses to immediately vacate them to avoid any more deaths,” he said.

Njega also assured Nairobi residents of normal service delivery despite the ongoing graft case against Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko.

“All the arms of government are still operational in Nairobi County and everything is in order so there is nothing to worry about. It is premature to speculate and comment on the active case and people should give the courts time to do their work,” he said.

Njega said that the government has been carrying out sizeable amounts of developments around the city in efforts to make it more vibrant, easily accessible to residents and attractive to investors.

“We have development in all Sub-Counties and more so in Starehe constituency where the Central Business District (CBD) is located,” he said.

The government spokesperson Col (Rtd) Cyrus Oguna commended the media for supporting the government in its work saying that they have been there throughout the year from the Huduma number registration, census and even in tragic times like the Precious Talent school collapse, Likoni ferry tragedy, the drought and floods.

“We should all be focused on the same light house and one guiding principle and that is national security and national interest which should guide us as journalists and Kenyans in general,” said Oguna insisting that without paying attention to that there is no country.

He said that the media and government play a complimentary role in that the government cannot reach stakeholders without the media.
