Siaya County Government has allocated Sh470 million to connect homes with water.

Water CEC George Rubik said the money had been factored in the 2018/19 annual budget.

"We want to ensure households, schools and other social amenities in the county have sufficient water," he said.

He added that the money would not only be used to support the extension of water pipes from but also drill solar-powered boreholes.

The CEC lauded the National government, through Lake Victoria Water Services Board, for partnering with the county government to support water supply in the region.

"As we try to consolidate efforts to ensure the county is water sufficient, cartels are thwarting our efforts to do so," said Rubik, adding they are working with relevant authorities to address the issue.

Rubik, who was accompanied by Water Principle Secretary Joseph Irungu, MPs Opiyo Wandayi (Ugunja) and Gideon Ochanda (Bondo), was speaking at Raduodi Primary School during the launch of the water project.
