Health PS, Susan Mochache.

The government yesterday received donation valued at Sh2.6 billion from the Republic of Korea to help in the fight against coronavirus even as it expressed its gratitude to the global and local partners for its support in the fight against the virus.

Health PS, Susan Mochache received 170 Covid-19 testing kits, which are equivalent to 17,000 tests including 50,000 pieces of surgical masks.

Consequently, she said that the numerous donations from partners since the outbreak of Covid-19 in Kenya in mid-March has eased the government’s spending on interventions.

She said now the government is able to redirect these resources to other health interventions such as HIV/Aids, malaria, and TB among others.

“Partners have helped us in a big way since donations started flowing into the country in the last two and a half months.

We have been able to save a huge amount of money,” she said at Afya House where she received the donations from the South Eastern Asian government and the Korean Community living in Kenya.

She said that the Korean government has supported Kenya in the past to address a number of health challenges, “and once more they have joined us in the fight against Covid-19 pandemic.”

Mochache said the country’s Covid-19 trends have been on an upward trajectory due to the ongoing community transmission.
