Terror suspect surrenders after sneaking back from Somalia

A terror suspect on Tuesday surrendered himself to the police in Nairobi.

The suspect whose identity has been withheld over safety concerns walked to Shauri Moyo police station in Nairobi at around 1.30 pm.

Although the suspect was not on the police radar, he was arrested after he made confessions that he was recruited to the Al-shabaab militia in June 2019.

According to a police statement seen by People Daily Online, the suspect approached one of the officers on duty.

"Today on January 21, an officer at Kamukunji was approached by a male adult who surrendered himself after allegedly being recruited by Al-shabaab (sic)," read the statement.

The suspect upon interrogation revealed that he had been to Mandera and Somalia where he took an oath and trained.

On January 6, the suspect revealed that he managed to escape from Somalia.

He sneaked back into the country through the Kitui-Thika route and finally managed to arrive at Majengo slums in Nairobi on January 20.

Police recovered a bag and two cellphones.

Anti-Terrorism Police are investigating him.
