Business organisations in Thika, Kiambu county, have combined efforts to enhance hygiene practices among residents and keep coronavirus at bay.

Giant manufacturer of consumer goods Bidco Africa, bread maker Broadway Bakery Limited, Chania Travellers Sacco, Mama Millers and Equity Bank have partnered with Thika Water and Sewerage Company (Thiwasco) to provide enough hand washing units for all residents.

In a Covid-19 handwashing programme unveiled yesterday, Bidco provided 100 mobile handwashing units which will be placed at strategic high traffic areas within Thika and its environs alongside facilitating volunteers who will teach residents how to observe high hygiene standards.

Broadways donated 10, 300-litre tanks for the initiative.

Thiwasco managing director Moses Kinya lauded the firms,  and said Kenyans must remain on high alert and if possible stay at home.

Kinya, however, maintained that water rationing in Thika town and its environs will continue as the company cannot go beyond their 36,000 cubic metres daily production capacity.

While assuring that water would be supplied equitably to all areas, the MD urged water users to use the commodity sparingly.

Thika deputy county commissioner Douglas Mutai who attended the ceremony, said authorities will continue to enforce Ministry of Health directives in hotels, bars and other joints without fear to ensure that all residents are safe.
