Kenyans have reacted angrily to a middle-aged woman’s confession that she had lied about being a cancer survivor for at least six years.

In an interview with K24’s Anjlee Gadhvi dubbed Cancer Lie,  Patricia Warugi confessed how she had lied about battling cancer and kidney failure.

She had claimed, in an earlier interview with Gadhvi, that was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (POS).

But six months after telling her story,  a startling confession changed everything.

Warugi confessed that she was a pathological liar and the whole experience was a figment of her imagination.

Coincidentally, Warugi story was a motivation to Gadhvi who is a cancer survivor.

“Cancer is the biggest lie I have told. Cancer has become the ‘it’ disease, anyone who has it gets attention. The bigger the issue, the more attention you get,” she said.

Kenyans on YouTube expressed their anger about Warugi’s lie.

“She is a compulsive liar. She lacked empathy or sympathy for the realness of cancer and made it about her. Cancer has sadly brought financial strain to many families and hard times, emotional fatigue, stress, loss. I hope she gets help,” said Blissful Muslimah.

“I know this woman and I can’t believe what I’m seeing and hearing. So disappointed,” said Sheila Wainaina.

“Even now she is getting the ‘high’ with this confession. I guess the ‘high’ from the lie had receded and she needed another dose! God help you, dear, you need help,” Dee Chep said.

Peggy Mwanza wrote: “Wow lady, wow! Cancer has taken so many people from us... This is just so sad making a mockery of such a serious disease.”

“Sad how one can make a mockery of a reality that has taken away so many...POS can be managed naturally though for anyone out there,” Kagwamas said.
