The youth have been urged to tap economic opportunities being created by ongoing massive road infrastructure projects by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Mount Kenya Youth Caucus, led by its chairman Linford Mutembei, said the government has been working on thousands of kilometres of roads across the country, and which is expected to spur growth and enormous business opportunities even in rural areas.

Speaking at Ruiru town in Kiambu County over the weekend, Mutembei said once complete, the roads will create opportunities in small businesses and jobs as well as real estate projects among others, which he said the young people should exploit.

“With good transport network being implemented by the President, young people can use family and leased land in rural areas to venture into livestock and crop farming, because they can now ferry produce to urban areas with ease.

"We should also expect agroprocessing plants to mushroom in the regions and give greater economic value to farmers,” Mutembei said.

Road projects are expected to enable expansion of towns along them, enhancing interconnectivity to shopping and urban centres thereby invigorating business as well as improving trade and profitability for businesses living within the peri-urban areas.
